YVONNE EILEEN TALSMA

Passed away peacefully with family at her side, November 4, 2024 at Age Care Royal Oak at the age of 85 years. Reunited with her loving husband, Romke Talsma (2002). Dear mother of Nita (Tom) Harmon, Ron (Cindy) Talsma, Robert Talsma, Kevin Talsma, Karen (Dana) Douglas. Special grandma of Ruth Ann (Dan), Luke (Ashley), Krista (Brandon), Graham (Robyn), Jessie (Greg), Hayden (Isabelle), Tyler and Dillan; great grandma of Brock, Claire, Evelyn, Dante, Ruby, Jack, Blake, Jess and Liz. Sister of late Nita (late Maurice), Doreen (late Jerry), late Kay (late Harold), late Wesley (late Lillian), late Olga and late Larry. Remembered by brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Gladys.

Visitation will be held at Lampman Funeral Home (724 Canboro Rd, Fenwick, ON L0S 1C0) Saturday, November 9, 2024 from 12pm until the time of funeral service to begin at 1 pm.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery (451 Canboro Road, Ridgeville). Alexander Casnig

 

Peacefully, on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Foyer Richelieu, Welland, ON at age 95. Loving brother of Sister Juliana, Margaret (Roy) Crest, Bill (Elizabeth), Roger (Alice) and James (Jim). Cherished uncle of Beckett (Greg) Csanig, as well as many other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Antal & Barbara, sisters & brothers Mary (Marcel) Martineau, Antol (Arden), Barbara and Rose (Bill).

The family will welcome friends on Monday, October 21, 2024 from 4 – 7 p.m. at Lampman Funeral Home, 724 Canboro Rd., Fenwick, ON. Vigil prayers will be said at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2024 at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, 834 Canboro Rd., Fenwick at 11:00 a.m. Rite of committal at Maple Lawn Cemetery, Wainfleet. Luncheon to be served at St. Ann’s Church, following the interment.

George “Earle” Baxter

George “Earle” Baxter passed suddenly in his sleep at home on Tuesday Oct 15, 2024, at the age of 72. George was an avid fisherman and Godzilla enthusiast.  He worked as a Fuel truck driver in Niagara for almost 40 years. Owning and operating Pelham Fuels for a time as well. He loved classic muscle cars and fishing with his grandson Lucas. George leaves behind his wife Amanda, of almost 49 years.  His children Beau, Holly and Michael (d.1979), and his grandchildren, Lucas. Kaidence, Matthew, Merrick, Lilia and Kian. Also, his nephew Pete. George was the last living of 5 children of Sydney Baxter & Anne Loudon.

Shirley Reeves

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley on Sunday, October 6th, 2024 at the Welland Hospital in her 89th year. Loving mother of Debbie (Terry) Mikolasek. Devoted grandmother of Greg and Kristina Stanley and Erin and Ryan Nery. Great-grandmother of Kapri, Tia and Lincoln. Shirley is survived by her sister Sharon Wright and nephews Chris and Tammy (Emma and Kaylie) and Craig and Amy (Alexis and Jordan). Shirl will be sadly missed by her long-time friends Adele Bourne and Marion Hoover. Shirl was predeceased by her devoted husband Robert (2020). Respecting Shirl’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. To quote Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way” and she sure did!! Richard Edmond Belfry

On September 19th, the Belfry family mourned the passing of their beloved Richard Belfry at the age of 65. Richard leaves behind his wife Judy (Sherwood) and their two children, Melissa and her husband Steve Sheath, grand children Lenard and Skylare Sheath and his son Marvin Belfry. He is preceded in death by his mother Ann Eva and father Marvin Belfry. Richard was a devoted family man and is survived by many loved ones, including his mother-in-law Lenora and late father-in-law Allen Sherwood, his brother Bob and wife Nancy with their five children, brother Dave and wife Liz with their three children, and late sister Janine’s husband Tony. Richard’s extended family includes Judy’s side, with siblings Gwen and Art Barefoot, Ed and Linda Sherwood, Marjory and the late Ken Lambert, Mark and Denise Sherwood, Bill and Leanne Sherwood, Ken and Jenny Sherwood, Tom and Laurie Sherwood, Matt and Lisa Sherwood, and Pat and Ron Souter, Cathy and husband Terry Swords, as well as the late Rob Sherwood. Richard’s large family was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Well known throughout the Niagara region from his career, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a Memorial Service at 1 p.m. at LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Rd., Fenwick, ON. (9050-892-4701). If so desired memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

GRACE KOOISTRA

December 19, 1927 – September 17, 2024

Grace Kooistra, a beloved Wife, Mother, Oma and great-Oma has left us. She passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital at the age of 96.

Grace was a homemaker, seamstress, crochet and knitter extraordinaire. Always active, always busy, she will be much missed by her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Grace was predeceased by her husband, Gerry (2003). Her children, Robert, John (Deb), Rosemary Chambers (Gary) and Dave (Evelyn) say goodbye Mom. You taught us well and modeled Christian life to us all. Mom you always did your best and gave your best without reservation. Her nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren were greatly loved and will miss their Oma tremendously. Grace was the youngest in her family. She was predeceased by her three brothers and her sister. She has now closed the circle.

Mom you “fought the good fight and have finished the race and have kept the faith”. II Timothy 4:7.

Heartfelt thanks to the nursing and support staff at Shorthills Retirement Villa in Fonthill, and the 6th floor staff at the Welland Hospital. Their kindness and compassion went far beyond our expectations.

The family will receive family and friends on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm at Lampman Funeral Home, Fenwick. A private interment will take place at 9:30am on September 23, 2024 followed by visitation at Trinity URC, 99 Scott Street, St. Catharines, from 11am-12pm. The celebration of life service will follow at 12pm in Trinity Church. ROBERT HENRY BROWN

April 4, 1939 – August 26, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Robert Henry Brown on the evening of August 26th, 2024. Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Bob was born April 4, 1939 at the family home farm in Fenwick, Ontario. Beloved husband of 54 years to Susanne (Skinner), loving father to Jenny Jensen (Robert), Cliff (Yolanda), and Todd Looby (Tammy’s partner). Robert was a proud grandfather to Ethan, Tanner, Ashley, Emma, Ryan, Hillary and Danielle. Great grandfather to Adelina and Rhea.  Bob is survived by his brother Lanny, sister Elizabeth (Carl) Porritt and brother-in-law Thomas Skinner along with many nieces and nephews.  Predeceased by his daughter Tammy (May 20, 2020), brother Richard (March 16, 2021), sister-in-law Rosanne Skinner (January 15, 2023) and sister-in-law Audrey Brown (August 14, 2024).

Bob was well known and respected in the Holstein Industry, he had an eye for great cows, which took him around the world to judge Holstein shows. He served as President of Holstein Ontario and Western Ontario Breeders. A 4th generation farmer on the family farm in Pelham, he incorporated Downalane Farms in the 1960’s and made it a world-renowned farm with visitors from around the world attending yearly. More recently he was the Recipient of the Century of Holsteins 2021. He loved his Buffalo Sabres and was a season ticket holder for almost 30 years. After selling the family farm Bob became an avid gardener and continued his love of the outdoors. Grandpa loved watching his grandkids play hockey and other sports.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lampman Funeral Home in Fenwick.
Visitation is at 9am at Fenwick United Church on Saturday, August 31st, 2024 with a service to follow at 10am, along with interment at Hillside Cemetery, Ridgeville.

LYNDA HUNTER (nee FLER)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynda Hunter of Fenwick, formerly of Hamilton. Lynda passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 13th, 2024 at the age of 73. Beloved wife of Russ Hunter for 52 years. Mother to Rebecca Hunter, Kelly Zappitelli (Wes), and Lindsay Van Nynatten (Bill). Grandma to Jami, Coco, Tali, Zander, Brody, Carson, and Alyssa. Predeceased by her mother Emily Picken and her granddaughter Cayleigh Zappitelli.

Thank you to the nurses and doctors at the Welland Hospital ICU department for their kindness and compassion.

A private burial has taken place at Hillside Cemetery in Pelham. A Celebration of Life BBQ will be held at the Hunter / Van Nynatten residence in Fenwick on Sunday, September 8th from 12pm to 5pm.
