On October 31, 2020, under a full blue moon, Anne Kardas (nee Blaszynski) made her peaceful journey to heaven. She was greeted by her loving husband Walter, their gregarious and ever smiling eldest son John and their inquisitive son Raymond. By their sides stood her loving and nurturing parents Mother Victoria (nee Fit) and Ferdinand Blaszynski along with her family of departed brothers and sisters and their spouses: Elaine (nee Blaszynski) and Bronson Pezanowski; Wanda (nee Wieczerzak) and Walter (Buzz) Blaszynski; Joseph Blaszynski, wife Mary (nee Cucuruzzo) and eldest son Joey along with Kitty (nee Jarvis) and Stan Blair (Blaszynski) all joined in spirit to welcome her back home.

Anne was born in Koniowka, Poland on May 25, 1921 the eldest of seven siblings. Anne left their beautiful mountain property in Poland and emigrated to Canada as a young teen with her mother and then 3 siblings to join their father for a difficult pioneer life in Canada.

After raising a family, Anne graduated nursing along with her classmate and soon to be lifelong friend Martha Bruno, where she worked in the emergency department of the Welland hospital until she retired. As testament to her strength and determination, Anne remained living in Fenwick at the matrimonial home of her and Walter until just weeks before she resigned to bring herself to the hospital and leave her body.

Anne will always be remembered as the queen of family and fashion and ever so keen, she kept her faculties to the very end, having a stack of books beside her at the Port Colborne hospital where she finally left us.

She is lovingly remembered and fondly missed by her brother John also of Fenwick his wife Elsie (Baschuk) Blaszynski, and her sister Mary (Blaszynski) and husband Paul Moroz; daughter in law Dale (nee Adams) Kardas and their children Nicholas and Zoe; her grandchildren, Steven (Susan) Shawn and Sheri (Doug), and Krista , and 3 great grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to all the caregivers, relatives, friends, volunteers and professionals, her brother John for his patient care and service and a deep heartfelt bow of gratitude to our special extended family member Serge for his special care and duty right to the end; Raymond and Dale’s dear friends, John and Debbie Gamble for their kindness, and most especially the Care coordinators and the LHIN who provided emotional and practical support to all who were involved with Anne and who in their own way contributed to the love and care of Anne during her diamond years. Without the dedicated and consistent support of the teams of nurses, PSW workers and a myriad of 911 workers, she would not have been able to live out her fierce independence for the last years with so much care and dignity.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to make a donation to the LHIN, Community Support Services of Niagara or any local charity of your choice.

There will not be visitation however, those who wish, may leave a condolence by visiting the Lampman Funeral Home website.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Friday, November 6, 2020 at her home parish of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, 834 Canboro Rd., Fenwick. Rite of Committal at Holy Cross Cemetery in Welland. Due to Bereavement Authority of Ontario regulations attendance at the church is restricted to 30% of capacity. Once the limit has been reached, no one else will be admitted. Masks are mandatory.

John “Johnny” Sabo passed away Sunday, October 11, 2020 at Portal Village, Port Colborne just 2 weeks shy of his 93rd birthday.

John was born October 29, 1927 in the township of Wainfleet, ON and resided there his entire life.

John is survived by his daughters Sharon McMillan (Jim), Sandra and his son Leslie, his grandsons Ian McMillan (Shauna), Graeme McMillan (Lauren), Travis Sabo, his granddaughter Chantal Sabo (Eric) and the sparkle in his eye his great granddaughter Nora James (Graeme), his brother Donald (Colleen), brothers in law Gordon Poth, Richard (Lorraine) Poth and his friend of many years Dawn Minor.

He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Teresa Sabo (Ott), his beloved wife Eleanor (Poth), his in-laws Joseph and Helen (Buscis) Poth, siblings George, Joseph, Mary, Steve, Louis, Frank, Elizabeth “Betty”, Rose, Anne, Irene, Helen and sister in law Geraldine (Gordon) Poth.

John’s family was one of the earliest European settlers in Wainfleet. They settled into this farming community in the early 1900’s and were involved in many aspects of the township’s growth.

Although John was an avid farmer raising chickens, cattle and beef for both home consumption and commercial sale and gardener of sweet corn, tomatoes and his walnut trees, John also worked for over 37 years at the now closed Nickel Plant in Port Colborne and TRW Products in St. Catharines.

John’s great love was spending time on one of his many tractors whether Massy Ferguson or Kubota. These tractors played an important role in many well-loved family & friend adventures, such as driving hay rides and helping family and friends collect Christmas greenery from his white pine stand. John also enjoyed hosting a number of pig roasts on his family farm.

John canvassed for over 20 years for the Heart & Stroke in Wainfleet and was honoured for his many successful canvasses.

John also travelled extensively with friend Ross, grandsons Ian & Graeme and his daughters. A well-loved trip was a return to Hungary and other parts of Eastern Europe with his daughters where he celebrated his 79th birthday.

John will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews and his many euchre friends throughout the region. He also had a special friend he played many cribbage games with.

The family wishes to thank all the staff of Portal Village for their compassionate and attentive care of John these past 2 years. Special mention needs to be made of Portal Village nursing staff, Para med Palliative care team and Dr. Scher. Their caring assistance at this challenging time has lessened the pain of John’s passing.

In lieu of flowers donations directed to the Heart Function Clinic or the Thrombosis Clinic at the Hamilton General Site of Hamilton Health Sciences will be greatly appreciated by the family.

Cremation has taken place. A private funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth’s Roman Catholic Church in Wainfleet. A private family interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Welland. A celebration of life to bring together all of John’s family and friends will be planned for a later date.

On Monday, October 5, 2020, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away at the end of his 81st year.

He is survived by his wife Wendy; his five sons Matthew (Lori), Michael (Carmen), Glenn Jr., Darren (Susan) and Ronald; three stepsons Michael (Andrea), Laurence and Christopher; his brothers Carl and Ray and his sisters Carol and Anita (Marcel); five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Glenn is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Arthur, Carson and Eugene and his sisters June, Marilyn, Thelma, Lorraine and Jean.

Glenn was born on October 27, 1938 in Silverdale, Ontario to Herbert and Gladys (Book) Lampman. He was an accomplished mechanic, working for Archer Truck Services, Huskys and the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake. He was also a proficient handyman and after retirement completely renovated a house in Fort Erie.

He was an outgoing friendly person who was always ready to help others especially with his mechanical and handyman skills. His natural empathy and humour made him a perfect spouse for a clergy wife and as an ordained Elder. A man of faith, he was looking forward to seeing his Saviour after these last few months of pain and sickness. A member of Merritt Lodge AM & FM of Port Colborne and Past Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star Bruce Chapter #253 and Lincoln Chapter #142.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Court on Friday, September 11, 2020 at the age of 87. Beloved father of Richard (Fran) Court and Pam (Blayne) Adam. Loving grandpa of Ryan (Melissa Erola-Adam) Adam, Brandon Adam, Kaitlyn Adam (Rory King), Andrew (Jessica) Court and Amanda (Benjamin) Allen. Cherished great-grandpa to Ember Adam, Evolet Allen and Yvonne Allen. Survived by sister Dawn Eros. Sadly missed by his special friend Margaret. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at ILTC Welland Hospital for your outstanding care and compassion. In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place. At the Woodlands of Sunset in Welland, ON, John Eton Gibson passed away on September 2, 2020; age 90 years.  Beloved husband of the late Anne Gibson (nee Woloschuk).  Loving father of Alan Gibson (Joan) of Truro, NS, Donna Gibson (Bruce Davidson) of East Windsor, NJ and Mark Gibson (Johanna Cornelissen) of Fenwick, ON.  Also survived by three grandchildren Alex, Angus and Andrew Gibson and many caring nieces and nephews.

Dear son to the late Clement Gibson and the late Sybil Gibson (nee Norris) of Bridgetown, Barbados (BB).  Dear brother to the late Attrill Gibson of Bridgetown, BB, and the late Orban Gibson (late Eleanor) of Williamston, ON. Dear brother to Glen Gibson (Shirley) of Rockland, ON, Newland Gibson (Karin) of Chilliwack, BC, Noreen Gibson of Montreal, QC and Ira Masud (late Mohammed “Mike”) of Chicago, IL.  

Despite his declining physical and mental health, our father remained true to his passion for humour (could be the red hair).  Dad had a moustache for many years.  In one of the last visits to him, he was asked why he shaved off his moustache?  Keep in mind he lost his hearing aids and there was physical separation, including a plastic screen in between, so the personal care worker helped translate.  Dad turned to the worker and said so he would be able to kiss her!  He was always on his game.  We remember his fondness for dancing to Calypso music or singing in the church choir or a show tune on the big stage with The Becket Players in Montreal.  We are indeed grateful for these memories as well as being our dad.   

A Funeral Service will be planned next year to be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church (Church in the Wildwood) South Lancaster, ON.  John’s ashes will be interred with his cherished wife in St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church Cemetery.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catharine “Kay” Kazmir on August 19th, 2020 at the age of 94.  She is now reunited with her adored husband Michael, playing music together once more.  Loving mother of Larry (Carol) and Dennis (Carole). Cherished grandma of Catherine (Andre) and Christopher (Andrea). She also leaves behind her sister Victoria “Vicky” Smith. She will be missed by her extended family both here and in the United States of America. Catharine is predeceased by her brother-in-law the Late Tom Smith.

According to Catharine’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family interment at Pleasantview Cemetery will take place at a later date.
