Gerald Freure

The Freure family sadly announce the passing of Gerald Freure (son of Charles and Mable Freure) on June 17 at Lookout Ridge in Fonthill.  He was in his 94th year. He was very recently deceased by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley (June 11). Devoted father of Barbara (Bryan), Ralph (Nancy), Robert, Brenda (Bruce), Beverly (Michael) and Bette (Bill).  Proud grandfather of Brandon (Angela) Dove, Chris (Lisa) and Tom (Katie) Freure, Erin and Derek (Nicole) Kearney, Rebecca (Elliott) Miller and Michael Richards.“Great” grandfather to Ayla and Silas, Nathan, Maddie and Anna, Juliette, Adam, Mark and Eleanor and Callum.  Survived by sister Joan (Joe) Harbell, sister in laws Barb Reid and Ann Roth(Ed), brother in law Bill MacDonald, cousins Jim (Beth) and Margaret Freure, nephew Jim (Pat) Harbell . Gerald played an integral part in the Niagara farming community.  He was awarded a Master Breeders Shield by Holstein Canada. He served on various agricultural boards and committees. He led 4H clubs for 15 years.  He served on the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority and as a West Lincoln Alderman for 9 years.  He received the Ontario Bicentennial Certificate of Merit , as well as a Lifetime Achievement award from North Niagara Federation of Agriculture and Citizen of the Year Award. A devoted family man, he was never happier than when surrounded by his loved ones.  Respecting Gerald wishes, cremation has taken place.  Visitation will take place at LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick on Sunday June 17th from 2-4p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A joint Celebration of Life for Gerald and Shirley will be held at Fenwick United Church on Monday, June 18 at 11 a.m.  Lunch to follow at the church.  Private family inurnment at a later date.  The family would like to thank all the staff at Lookout Ridge for their kind and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of one’s choice would be appreciated by the family.

Julie (Julianna) Kelley

September 14th, 1953 – June 12th, 2018

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Julie (Julianna) Kelley (nee Balabas) of London, Ontario, formerly of Fonthill, passed away at Victoria Hospital in London in the early hours of Tuesday June 12th in her 64th year.

Julie was predeceased by her loving husband Gary Laurence Kelley and her mother Ilona Balabas.  Devoted mother to Sean (Jennifer) and Meagan (Kyle), and adoring Nana to grandchildren Jackson, Spencer and Sadie.

Julie spent many years of her career working behind the scenes in various healthcare institutions, (Welland Hospital, CCAC, and St Mary’s General Hospital) prior to enjoying retirement with her children and grandchildren.

Julie will be greatly missed by extended family including siblings and beloved nieces and nephews.  She will also be remembered by dear friends in Niagara, Kitchener and London, as well as relatives in Hungary.

Respecting Julie’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at Lampman Funeral Home 724 Canboro Rd, Fenwick Saturday June 23rd 1 P.M.  Fellowship to follow at Old Pelham  Town Hall 491 Canboro Rd, Ridgeville.

If so desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Canadian Paediatric Stroke Support Association (www.CPSSA.org) are greatly appreciated.

No time to cry, don’t shed a tear, I am with God, in spirit I am here, I kept the faith, my spirit is light, I am at peace now, I fought the good fight.

The Freure family sadly announces the passing of Shirley Ramona Freure nee Macdonald (daughter of Ellen and Gordon Macdonald) peacefully on Monday June 11th at Lookout Ridge in Fonthill. She was in her 90th year. Shirley will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 71 years Gerald Freure. Devoted and loving mother of Barbara (Bryan), Ralph (Nancy), Robert, Brenda (Bruce), Beverly (Michael) and Bette (Bill). Wonderful proud Grandmother of Brandon (Angela) Dove, Chris (Lisa), and Tom (Katie) Freure, Erin and Derek (Nicole) Kearney, Rebecca (Elliott) Miller and Michael Richards. Predeceased by Helen, Fern, Bruce and Graham. Survived by many nieces and nephews. Shirley was an active member of Fenwick and Wellandport United Churches and the UCW. She was very involved in the community and always had a kind word for everyone. She was an avid cook and gardener, she was the Chief Operating Officer of Freurehaven Farms and was devoted to her family all her life. Respecting Shirleys wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at Fenwick United Church on Monday June 18th at 11:00 A.M. Lunch to follow at the church. Passed away at the Welland Hospital on Tuesday June 5, 2018 in his 87th year. Loving husband to Claudia. Dear father of Kathy Benner Macleod (Derek) and Laurie Benner. Beloved Grandfather of Julia Macleod. Jerry taught at Pelham High School and various others. He was a member of Niagara Woodcarvers and Probus and also a member of Phoenix Lodge #535 A.F. & A.M. God saw you getting tired, a cure was not to be

He put His arms around you and whispered,

Sadly, we share the news that Donald passed away at the Welland Hospital in the early hours of June 1st.  Dear husband for 50 years of Mary Jane (Litwiller), devoted dad to Susan Jeffery (Todd) of Fonthill and Andrew Hurst (Jae) of Burlington.  Proud and adored grandpa of Emma Kate, Tessa, Samuel, Lydia, Rachel Jeffery and Mackenzie Hurst.  Don touched so many lives as an educator, coach, author, mentor, historian and volunteer.  Don taught secondary school with the Hamilton-Wentworth Board of Education for 34 years.  As he said, he loved his first day, his last day and most of the days in between! In keeping with Don’s wishes a private cremation has taken place.  Thanks to Juravinski Oncology and Radiation; CCAC and his PSW Nadia.  If so desired, memorial donations to the  charity of your choice greatly appreciated by the family.

Passed away at Port Colborne Hospital on Tuesday May 15, 2018. George Alsop of Fenwick in his 91st year. Loving husband to Berniece. Dear father of Jarrett P. (Marlene), G. Rory and Robin L.D. Alsop (Byron Sheldrick). Loving Grandfather to Melanie, David, Lachlan and Morag. Great Grandfather to Connor and Penelope. Predeceased by siblings Bill, Don and Barbara. George was a long time farmer, employee of John Deere Welland and he was also Deputy Reeve of Fenwick Village Council and was Vice Chairman of the last local school board. Respecting Georges wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Fenwick United Church on Wednesday May 23rd at 11:00 A.M.Visitation will be at the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick on Tuesday May 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Passed away at Port Colborne Hospital on Wednesday April 18, 2018 in her 89th year. Proud mother of Lorraine and Gordon (Candace). Doting Grandmother of five and Great Grandmother to eight. Ever sweet Aunt to many nieces and nephews. Survived by a loved and loving family, brother Alex Strychalski (Fran) and sister Mary Balogh (Joe). Eileen married Adam in 1947 and began her family soon after. She was a loving and supportive wife and mother. A life long family care giver (and grandchildren would say “Grandmother Extraordinare ” ). She cared deeply for family, friends and neighbours. She remained a member of St. John Fellowship Lincoln Corps and friend of First Presbyterian Church North Pelham. Predeceased by her husband Adam, infant son Brian and her parents Peter and Katherine Strychalski. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church North Pelham on Monday April 30th at 2:00 P.M. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
