JOHN NELSON SPORBECK

SPORBECK, JOHN NELSON – On Thursday October 13, 2016 at Welland Hospital Extended Care unit, John Sporbeck of Wellandport passed away peacefully in his 87th year. Loving husband of the late Teresa Sporbeck. John is survived by his brother Earl Sporbeck (Sophie) of Hamilton, his nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday October 21, 2016 at St. Anns Catholic Church in Fenwick at 11:00 A.M. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Welland to follow. Visitation will be on Thursday October 20th from 7 – 9 P.M. at the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick. We would like to extend a special Thank You to the amazing staff at the Welland Hospital ECU for all the care and support for John over the past 3 plus years, especially over the last 2 weeks. In lieu of flowers donations to the Welland Humane Society would be appreciated.

GILLAP, BETTY JUNE (nee MACK) – has gone home to be with her Lord on Wednesday October 5, 2016 at her late residence in Welland in her 88th year. Loving husband to Rowland (Rolly). Dear mother of James (Bonnie), Howard (Patricia), Donald (Brenda), Michael (Jane), Stephen (Judith) and Tracey Borisenko. Loving grandmother to fifteen and great grandmother to eleven. Betty is survived by her sister Irene Sheppy and brother William Mack (Pat). The family would like to extend a special Thank You to her PSW care workers, nurses and Dr. Venter.

UHRIG, MAPLE ROSE – Age 91, passed away peacefully at the Welland Hospital on September 9, 2016 with her family by her side. She will be sadly missed by family and friends. Predeceased by her husband Norman Edward (2014). Leaving behind her daughter Pat (Al) Higgins and son Norm (Pam), 7 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Maple was a retiree of F. W. Woolworths Hamilton and enjoyed a long retirement fishing and participating in activities at Anchor Point and Lookout Ridge. Respecting Maple’s wishes there will be no Visitation. Cremation has taken place, with a private Interment at Victoria Lawn Cemetery in St. Catharines. Peacefully at home on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Dearly loved husband of Sue. Loving father of David (Cretia), Mark, Angela (Marcel) Lounsbury. Poppa and grandpa to Jamie, Jessica, Cory, Joshua, Dylan, and Braden and great grandchildren Bailey, Cameryn and Jordyn. Will be sadly missed by sister Mieke Mander, brother John and many in-laws. Hans was a volunteer firefighter in Fenwick at station 2 and owned and operated Ridderikhoff Meat Products for many years. The family will receive friends at the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME Monday, August 15, 2016 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm with the funeral service in the Lampman Chapel on Tuesday August 16, 2016 at 11 am. Interment to follow at North Pelham Cemetery.

We wish to announce the peaceful passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, friend in her 99th year at Lookout Ridge on Monday, August 8, 2016.

Ruby was predeceased by husbands, David Angle (1974) and Edward (Ted) Elliott (1999). Survived by Nancy (late Keith Burnison) and Harry Vanderzanden, Anne (late Gene) Freeman, Graham and Marion Angle, Janice and Jim Aulph, Ruth (late Ed) Woodhouse and Evelyn (late Don) Alexander. Missing their grandmother are Lynn (Brian) Hilberdink, Gregory (Sue) Burnison, Lisa (Scott) Cullen, Heath (Laurie) Angle, Beth Angle (Rob Kurcz), Joel Aulph (Brenda Bradley), Jessica (Sean) Stewart, David (Theresa) Woodhouse, Jim (Shelley) Woodhouse, Paul (Laurel) Woodhouse, George (Lori) Elliott, and April Elliott. Proud great-grandmother (gi-gi) to Charlie and Russell Hilberdink, Wyatt and Nicholas Burnison, Brittany (Ryan) and Mara Cullen, Liam and Adam Aulph, William Bradley, Hayden and Mason Stewart, Ryan (Meghan) Woodhouse, Andrew (Kayla) Woodhouse, Dawn (James) Manuel, Tom Woodhouse, Bryan Woodhouse, Kyle (Lisa) Woodhouse, Alysa (Jamie) Woodhouse and 6 great-great-grandchildren – Logan, Peyton, Pyper, and Sailor Woodhouse and Madison and Lucas Manuel.

Her parents Peter Judson and May (Cross) Bea, as well as her sister Helen (Frank) Cooney, and brothers Russel (Mary) Bea and Raymond (Margaret) Bea predeceased her. She was Aunt Ruby to many nieces and nephews and their children.

Ruby’s life was spent locally between home and church. She was active in the McDonald Circle, Willing Workers, Board of Managers, choir, bazaar, quilting and CGIT at North Pelham Presbyterian Church. At home her table could always hold one more. Spare time produced many afghans, mittens, toques, and quilts for family and charity. She often wished she had kept track of the Linus blankets and charity quilts which she made up to a year ago.

The family will receive friends at LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick, on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A celebration of life will be held from the North Pelham Presbyterian Church, 602 Metler Road, North Pelham on Friday, August 12, 2016 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Hospice Niagara, North Pelham Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.

HAROLD EDWARD GRANT

Grant- Harold Edward of Wainfleet in his 92nd year died peacefully Friday, July 15, 2016. He was the dearly loved father of Peter of Ottawa (Grace), Paul of Wainfleet, Ruth Hemmingsen of Welland, Jean Grant of Peterborough, Katherine Grant of Niagara Falls, Judy Cowell (Fred), of Welland, Kelly Grant of Hamilton and John of Vineland. He was the proud and loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. He was predeceased by his wife Annie (Flagg) 2001, infant daughter Mary Elizabeth, his daughter-in-law Bonnie and his great-grandson Taven Hemmingsen. He was born Nov. 7, 1924 in Digby, Nova Scotia. He served in the West Nova Scotia Regiment during the Second World War. He fought in the Italian Campaign and the the liberation of Holland. He also saw service in France, Belgium and Germany. He will be loving remembered by his vast family in both Ontario and Nova Scotia.
