JESSIE ISOBEL BEARDWOOD

JESSIE ISOBEL BEARDWOOD – it is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Jessie Isobel (nee Hoover) Beardwood at the Welland Hospital on January 10, 2016 in her 89th year. Jessie can now be with her beloved husband Joseph Harry Beardwood (1919-2000). Dearly loved mom of Larry Beardwood (Bonnie) and Debbie Richards. Cherished Grandma of Sheri Walker, Sandra Conway (Scott), Shawn Beardwood (Anne), Joe Beardwood, Melissa Beardwood, Joshua Richards, Kalie Richards (Paul), Jay and Jonathon Richards. She is also survived by eight great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. Jessie leaves behind her cherished and very dear friend Maureen Todd who will miss her deeply. Jessie had a life filled with family gatherings, travel, cheering the Blue Jays on, and reading her favourite books. She was a kind, sweet woman who always found the goodness in people. Jessie was the definition of a true caregiver. In her early years with her husband she provided love and tender care for many foster children in their country home on the river. Many years later she would become her husband’s strongest advocate and careprovider during his years with Alzheimer’s Disease. She had years of involvement with Community Living Welland Pelham where her heart and home was always open to those who needed her, never closing her door if someone required her help, a meal or a listening ear. “One person caring for another represents life’s greatest value”. Jessie’s incredible example was a gift to us all. The family wants to thank Dr. David James, EMS and nursing staff and Sandra Merritt for their compassion and care to our mother and her family on Sunday evening. Upon Jessie’s request there will be no funeral. Her family will be arranging a Celebration of Life at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to the LAMPMAN FUNERAL HOME, 724 Canboro Road, Fenwick.

Kicul, Mary Bernadette (Filip)

Kicul, Mary Bernadette (Filip) – Passed away peacefully on November 20, 2015, in her 85th year, with her loving husband and sons by her side. Mary was born on February 26, 1931 in Dodd’s Land, SK but lived most of her life in Fenwick, ON. She is predeceased by her brothers Joe and Bruno, sister Frances and parents Joseph and Stella. Mary is survived by Mike, her husband of over 63 years, sons Martin (Sue) and Michael (Susan), grandchildren Heather (Al), Richard (Katie), Alison, Matthew (Nicole), Michael (Shaney), Daniel (Shannon) and Emily, great-grandchildren Darla, Marick, Lila, Connor, Desmond and Audrey, and many nieces and nephews. Mary was very proud of her Polish heritage and was a wonderful Baba to her grandchildren. She loved to dance, especially polkas and waltzes. She was an extraordinary gardener, cook and baker, always looking to try new plants and recipes. She could prepare a banquet for any occasion, or “whip up” a meal on short notice for any visitor. For a few years she blended her baking skills with artistic talent to create beautiful wedding cakes. She always enjoyed the opportunity to help The Friends of Maple Acre Library by providing pineapple squares. In spite of family hardships early in life, and dealing with chronic illness for over 50 years, Mary was always cheerful, enthusiastic, hard-working and selfless; among her final words were “don’t worry”. She enjoyed a variety of activities over the years, including knitting, candle-making, tole painting, fishing, picking wild mushrooms, cheering at basketball games, and solving puzzles. She worked for 17 years as a custodian for the DSBN, mostly at E.W. Farr, where she loved being a good friend to many children. However, her constant and most beloved jobs were as a mother and homemaker, and she excelled at both. She was beautiful, talented and humble. Her family is grateful and proud to have had her in their lives. In her last days we were hoping for a miracle, but realized that she had always been our miracle. Many thanks to the caring nurses in the ER and Stroke Unit, Social Worker Kathryn Pummell and Dr. Pranger. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lampman Funeral Home. At Mary’s request, cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or Pelham Cares would be appreciated by the family.
