With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Irene Cook on August 18th, surrounded by the love of her family, holding her hand until the end. Cherished and best mom of Nancy Arbour (Dave). Loving and proud gramma of Adam Arbour. Irene was predeceased by her husband George (1986), brother George Csuka (2021), her parents John (1988) and Stella (2002) Csuka, and longtime friend/partner Al Myers (1999). Survived by sister-in-law Clare Csuka. Special Aunt Irene to Beth Fulbrook (Tim) and John Csuka (Jenn) and their families and Harold and Derrick Cook. Step-gramma to Jeff Arbour (Jenn) and Kelly Smyth (Lee) and their families. Wendy Novosel and Judy Peters called her their second mom, she loved them both dearly.
Born in Regina, Saskatchewan on September 6, 1932, she moved to Welland in 1940 with her Mom and brother. We enjoyed the many stories her and Uncle George shared about living on the farm. She was a hard worker and was willing to help everyone. Mom endured many health issues over the years including breast cancer, and nursed Dad through many illnesses, never complaining. We have many happy memories of making perogies, cabbage rolls, noodles & strudel. Mom was a talented cake decorator, providing many brides with beautiful wedding cakes. She later took up oil painting while spending her winters in Florida, loved line dancing (she could really move) and bowled for many years with her friends. Mom was a charter member of the Fenwick Lioness where she enjoyed many good times and shenanigans.
Mom moved into D.H. Rapelje Lodge in 2019, when her health started to decline, and Dementia started to show. We were fortunate to have her in our lives for 4 more years. A special Thank You to House 400 Staff, who treated her with such love and kindness.
Cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Rapelje Lodge Recreation Dept. (Irene Cook) would be greatly appreciated.
Our deepest condolences on the passing of Aunt Irene. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
